Call Recording and Caller Notice

Rotor does not play an automatic "this call is being recorded" message when call recording is on. Here's how recording works and how to notify callers yourself if you need to.

Rotor can record inbound and outbound calls on your business number. When call recording is on, Rotor does not play an automatic message telling the caller the call is being recorded.

How call recording works

  • Recording is turned on per number, for inbound and outbound calls.

  • No disclaimer or beep is played to the other person on the call.

  • Your voicemail greeting only plays when a call goes to voicemail. It does not play on answered calls.

Turn call recording on or off

  1. Go to Settings → Engagement.

  2. Click the pen icon on the same line as your number.

  3. Turn Call recording on or off for inbound and outbound calls.

Do I need to tell callers?

Recording consent rules vary by state and country. Some places only require one person on the call to consent (that can be you). Others require everyone on the call to agree. Check the rules where you and your customers are located before recording calls.

If you need to notify callers, the simplest way today is to say it at the start of the call, for example: "Just so you know, this call may be recorded for quality."

Tips

  • If you call customers in other states, check their state's rules too, not just yours.

  • Give your team a one-line script so everyone announces recording the same way.

  • Not sure if recording is on? Check the pen icon next to your number in Settings → Engagement.

Congratulations! You can now manage call recording in Rotor.
